A Few Basics

Notation:

S   =  Sa
R   =  Ri
G   =  Ga
M  =  Ma
P   =  Pa
D  =  Da
N =   Ni

When there is a dot on top any of these letters, it denotes high pitch, called 'Taara Sthayi'. In the same way, if there is a dot below a letter, it denotes low pitch, called 'Mandra Sthayi'.

Talam: 


Notation of talam has 1s and 0s. 
1 is called 'Laghuvu'. Laghuvu denotes a tap followed by counting fingers. Depending on the number of fingers counted, 'Jaathi' can be identified.
0 is called 'Dhrutamu'. Dhrutamu denotes a tap and a turn. 


Eg: Aadi Talam : Aadi Talam can be represented as 1-0-0. And it is 'Chaturasra Jathi'. So, 1 here, is a tap followed by 3 fingers. 


Speeds:

 1st Speed  : One letter per a finger
2nd Speed  : Two letters per finger
3rd Speed  :  Four letters per finger
